  • Myerstown Church Runs for Orphan Support

Myerstown Church Runs for Orphan Support "It began as an outreach," says Dan Jackson, Associate Pastor at New Beginnings Church, Myerstown, PA, where Keith Shearer is Senior Pastor. On Sept. 4th, a 5K race will be sponsored by the church. The event is coupled with the church's big Labor Day weekend outreach.

"Since a number of us do road races, we suggested bringing in a charity as is often done," said Dan. The New Beginnings congregation supports a church in the Central African Republic (CAR) through Hand in Hand ministry and money raised above the cost of the race goes to this church. Last year donations over the cost of the race came to about $500 which was contributed to Hand in Hand. Dan's wife, Rachel, and their daughter traveled to CAR to hand-deliver the gifts to their partner church. "This year we're working and praying for a larger turnout and a greater gift to our partner church in the CAR," concludes Dan.

New Beginnings is one of many churches in the Grace Brethren Fellowship that support a CAR church in a ministry of educating and providing a daily lunch for their orphans.

  • COCRIMEX counseling course in full swing

COCRIMEX counseling course in full swing Bess and Brenda, GBIM staff in Mexico City, write that they have developed and given the level one counseling course titled "Called to Encourage". They had good attendance and responses from those who took the course. There are several people who desire more training in these areas. They are working on the second level course which they plan to give within the next two months. They ask for prayer for wisdom in knowing how to handle the many people who are looking for counseling in the church and for the people God is bringing to them who need help in this way.

They write, "We are in the midst of a transition time for the church and the ministry of COCRIMEX as a whole. We as a missionary team are praying and fasting and asking God to show us what the next steps will be. We would ask you to join us in these prayers for wisdom and discernment about the future of the church here in Mexico City."

  • Youth Camp begins today in Battambang

Youth Camp begins today in Battambang

Pray that God will do a great work in the hearts of 69 young people who have come from villages all over NW Cambodia to attend the third annual Youth Discipleship Camp in Battambang which began today and continues through Aug. 28th. They will study the Bible with Cambodian Ministry Partners on the theme "Walking with Christ."

Short-term teams from Ashland, Wooster and Pataskala, Ohio, have safely arrived and will be teaching English and First Aid in the afternoons. Pray that God would greatly bless their ministry to campers, and that the Holy Spirit would work through them in spite of cultural and language difficulties.

Pray that the Cambodians who will be trained in first aid will allow the love of Christ to overcome cultural inhibitions that would keep them from helping others who have been injured in accidents.

Please pray for safety during the camp, that God would protect staff and campers from accident and illness.

Pray that young people would be blessed and strengthened in their faith and that they will transmit what they will have learned to others in their home villages. Pray that many would open their hearts to a greater response to God's call on their lives.
